Start of the RIS-CuRE project

Start of the RIS-CuRE project

The realization of the project RIS-CuRE, funded by the EIT-Regional Institute for Innovation and Technology, which is part of the prestigious European fund Horizon 2020 has started at the beginning of 2019 (01/01/2019 – 31/12/2021) and gathers 14 partner organizations from 8 countries. GIM, together with UGD and GeoZS carried out sampling campaign in Buchim Cu mine tailing with drilling and are preparing samples for further processing.

The project aims at establishing a network of Cu value chain stakeholders in the ESEE region in order to promote an innovative service for the zero waste extraction of metals (Cu, Ag, As, Au, and REE) from Cu mining wastes, generated during past mining activities. This will contribute towards increased competitiveness in the region, and serve as a source of metals for EU. Two tailings will be addressed, utilizing optimal extraction technology.
